Q: I am not able to update my SYS BIOS within Windows.
How do I update the BIOS outside of Windows OS from the Windows Flashing exe on the driver page?
A: Please follow these steps to create a USB Bootable WinPE drive to run BIOS Flashing tool outside of windows:
- Use the Getac Recovery Media Utility (GRMU):
- Can be used create removable boot media for it and other units. Here is a link to it:

The utility can be run on any device, but within the utility you need to enter the serial number of the unit you want to download its factory image and create removable boot media for.- The recovery partition will not be restored using this method which will cause the reset from bios method not to work. Since you will not be recovering using the tool this does not apply.
- Can be used create removable boot media for it and other units. Here is a link to it:
- Once you boot the media Make sure NOT to press recover as data will be lost. Instead press Alt + F4 so that the main window closes and command window can be seen. If you have a unit with limited USB ports, It is recommended to plug the boot media into a usb hub for step 3.
- Connect a usb containing the newer firmware.
- Enter diskpart in the command prompt.
- Enter list vol to determine the drive letter associated with the newly connected usb usign drive size.
- Enter exit to exit diskpart.
- Enter the drive letter and colon you find associated with the USB drive and press enter (ex. E: ; drive letter may be different on your system).
- Navigate to the appropriate directories and update firmware for EC and BIOS from there.
