Cleaning and Decontamination Procedure for Getac Computers Prior to RMA
Purpose
This document provides guidance for safely cleaning and decontaminating Getac computer products before returning them for Repair, Replacement, or Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) processing.
Proper decontamination helps protect service personnel from potential biological, chemical, or environmental contaminants and ensures compliance with shipping and handling requirements.
Scope
These guidelines apply to all Getac compute products, including:

- Rugged tablets
- Vehicle-mounted computers
- Handheld devices
- Associated accessories and peripherals
Important Notice
Customers are responsible for ensuring that all returned equipment has been properly cleaned and decontaminated prior to shipment.
Devices showing evidence of contamination may be:
- Refused upon receipt
- Returned to sender
- Subject to additional cleaning fees
- Delayed in service processing

General Cleaning Recommendations
Before Cleaning
- Power off the device completely.
- Disconnect all external power sources.
- Remove accessories, docking stations, batteries (if removable), and peripheral devices when possible.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) if contamination is suspected.
Approved Cleaning Materials
Use only non-abrasive cleaning materials such as:
- Soft lint-free cloths
- Microfiber cloths
- Mild detergent solutions
- Isopropyl alcohol solutions (per Getac recommendations)
- Approved disinfectant wipes compatible with ruggedized electronics
Avoid excessive moisture during cleaning.
Cleaning Procedure
- Wipe all exterior surfaces thoroughly.
- Pay close attention to:
- Keyboard areas
- Touchscreens
- Ports and connectors
- Handles and straps
- Battery compartments
- Allow the device to air dry completely before packaging.
- Inspect the equipment to confirm no visible contamination remains.
Contaminated Equipment
Do not return equipment that has been exposed to:
- Biohazards
- Hazardous chemicals
- Radioactive materials
- Excessive mold or biological contamination

Packaging Recommendations
After cleaning:
- Place the device in anti-static or protective packaging.
- Use secure cushioning materials to prevent transit damage.

- Back up all important data.
- Remove sensitive or confidential information.
- Perform encryption key recovery/export if required.
- Follow your organization’s IT security policies.
