Overview

This process allows for upgrading any older installations of the InCar or MasterDock applications to SQL 2019. This was created in response to Microsoft dropping support for SQL 2012 as of July 12th, 2022.

Note:
This upgrade is optional. If you choose not to upgrade, it will NOT impact any systems currently in use.

Instructions

  1. Click here to download UpgradeSQL2019.exe.
    Caution:
Your web browser, e.g. Chrome, may warn you that the file is too large to scan for viruses. Should you wish to do so, scan the executable using your own antivirus software BEFORE running the executable.
  2. Run UpgradeSQL2019.exe on the device to be upgraded.

    Caution:
You may be prompted by Windows Smart Screen. Click on More Info… and then Run Anyway. Accept any User Account Control prompts as well.
  3. When prompted: Do you want to upgrade to SQL 2019?, click on Yes.
  4. Files will begin to extract, once finished, the prerequisite SQL 2012 SP4 patch will install automatically.
    Note:
This should take approximately 4 minutes, depending on resources available on the device being upgraded.
  5. Once finished, SQL 2019 will begin to upgrade.
    Note:
This will take approximately 8 minutes, depending on resources available on the device being upgraded.
  6. Once complete, all dialogue boxes will close.
  7. Restart the device.
Warning:
It is important to pay attention to the installer. If there is an error, it will flash quickly and disappear. Errors while installing/upgrading will NOT be shown or listed once complete. See verification for how to validate the installation.

Verification

Method 1

To verify, check the Uninstall Programs menu (WIN+R, appwiz.cpl). In the Microsoft SQL section, Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (64-bit) will no longer be listed.

Note:
After installing SQL 2019, Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client and Transact-SQL ScriptDom may remain, this is fine.

Successful Upgrade:

*Failed Upgrade:

*Note:
Notice there is no 2019 install, and the base 2012 install remains. If you encounter any issues or need help, contact [email protected]

Optionally, you can check C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server for a folder named IRSASQL2008 folder. If it is missing, the upgrade did not complete properly.
