Enable Windows Updates on VR-X20

Symptom

Windows Update is disabled by default on all Getac DVRs running Windows 10. 

Resolution

If an admin would like to enable Windows Updates, the following procedure can be followed:

  1. Login to a local admin account on the DVR. Utilize the ClientAdmin account if no other local admin account was created.
    Note:
    Contact [email protected] to get the ClientAdmin password.
  2. Open an Administrative Command Prompt (WIN + X, then a).z
    1. Run the command:
      Sc config wuauserv start=demand
      Plain text
    2. Close Command Prompt.
  3. Open GPEdit (WIN + R, type gpedit.msc then hit the enter key).
    1. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
      1. Set Update the Configure Automatic Updates to enabled.
        1. Set the desired organization specific update settings.
      2. Set Remove access to use all Windows Update features to disabled
  4. Reboot the DVR.
  5. Login to a local admin account on the DVR.
  6. Open GPEdit
    1. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
      1. Set Update the Configure Automatic Updates to Not Configured
      2. Set Remove access to use all Windows Update features to Not Configured
  7. Reboot the DVR.
